Azaleas start to grow buds and leaves, then bloom starting in late winter and early spring before hotter summer temperatures hit. Some varieties also bloom in the fall.

Azaleas do better in bright, filtered light, such as on the north side. Morning sun, with afternoon shade, provides the best combination.
Requirements

Azaleas prefer to be in moist, well-drained soil, with a pH of 4.5 to 6.0. Keep plants well-watered and regularly check pH to extend the azalea lifespan.
