Hinge Types

There are a variety of hinge types to choose from, depending in your preferences. Each can vary in appearance, size and use. Research the appropriate hinge type for your doors and cabinets.

Flush Door Hinge

  • A flush door hinge makes only the barrel of the hinge visible. A recess does not have to be cut in the frame to accommodate this hinge.

Butt Hinge

  • Butt hinges are typically used for cabinets. They are placed into a recess in the frame.

Butterfly Hinge

  • Butterfly hinges resemble the wing shape of a butterfly. These hinges are typically used for lightweight doors.

Continuous Hinge

  • Continuous hinge is also known as piano hinge. It comes in brass or steel and works well where a long hinge is needed.

Knuckle Hinge

  • A knuckle hinge has a decorative knuckle. It has a threaded part that is screwed into a hole in the frame and the door.

Concealed Hinge

  • Concealed hinges cannot be seen when the cabinet door is closed. This hinge typically comes in either 25mm or 36mm.
