Speaker System Description
A speaker is a mechanical device that converts electric signals into sounds. When listening to complex sounds such as music on a stereo system or a movie in a home theater setup, multiple speakers are used at once. This speaker system allows us to completely hear the multiple sounds that are transmitted at different frequencies.
-
Tweeter
-
A tweeter transmits high frequency sounds (6000 to 20000 Hz or hertz), affording listeners the ability to hear bright, brilliant sounds.
Midrange
-
Midrange speakers transmit sound frequencies ranging from 500 to 6000 Hz. This frequency encompasses most sounds created by both instruments and the human voice.
-
Woofer
-
Transmitting low frequency sounds ranging from 100 to 500 Hz, this speaker is what makes the bass line audible when listening to music.
Subwoofer
-
The lowest (20 to 100 Hz) sound frequency transmitter, the subwoofer picks up sound that is so low its vibrations can often be felt.
Monitor
-
Within performance environments, a monitor is pointed toward the individuals creating the sounds transmitted through the rest of the system. This speaker enables them to hear themselves as well as some of the other sounds more clearly.
