Dead Sea Fishing

There is no fishing in the Dead Sea itself. As a hypersaline lake, or a lake containing large amounts of sodium chloride or other kinds of mineral salts, the Dead Sea is too harsh an environment to support animal and plant life.

    • The Dead Sea is located in the region commonly referred to as the Middle East and lies between the countries of Israel and Jordan.

    • The Dead Sea is one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world. With an average salt content between 31 and 32 percent, the Dead Sea is over eight times saltier than the oceans.

    Depth

    • The Dead Sea is not only the deepest hypersaline lake in the world at maximum depth of 1,240 feet, it is also one of the lowest places on earth at nearly 1,300 feet below sea level.

    Size

    • The Dead Sea is 11 miles across at its widest and 42 miles in length with a total surface area of 310 square miles.

    Climate

    • The climate of the Dead Sea is extremely arid with sunny skies almost all year-round. While temperatures can reach over 100 degrees F in summer, average winter temperatures hover around 70 degrees F.
