Etiquette for Shopping in a Bridal Shop

Your wedding day is a special day. All eyes will be on you. You garner everyone's attention. But that doesn't mean you get to be a Bridezilla. There are still rules that you must follow when shopping for a wedding dress. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Make an Appointment

    • Shopping for wedding and bridesmaid dresses is not like looking for a pair of jeans. Most stores don't allow you to just grab dresses off the rack and try them on. Instead, you'll be working with a bridal consultant. Making an appointment will ensure that you have the consultant's personalized attention.

    Be Patient

    • Dress shopping takes time. Allow one to two hours to try on dresses per shop. Don't rush your consultant. The consultant is there to help you find the perfect dress for you. Don't assume that you will find the ideal dress on the first shopping trip.

    Keep an Open Mind

    • When possible bring pictures of dresses you like from bridal magazines. Provide the consultant with as much detail about what you do and don't like in wedding dresses. But remember in most cases they have been doing this job for years. They may suggest some things that you think you won't like. Be open to what they say and try on dresses they suggest. You might find something that you wouldn't have otherwise considered.

    Photos

    • It may be tempting to take photos of dresses you like with a camera or cellphone. However, bridal shops lose a lot of money on people who take wedding dress pictures to a seamstress to create a cheaper version. If you must take a picture get permission first.

    Entourage

    • While it's nice to bring your entire wedding party, not all bridal shops have room for a large group of people. In addition, young children may get bored. Ask ahead of time how many people you can bring.
