Papillion Dog Breed Information
The papillon is a small but vivacious breed of dog named after the French word for butterfly. The name is both homage to the dog's distinctive facial structure and markings, and a nod toward the bright and happy personalities for which the breed is known.

The papillon is small and fine boned, weighing no more than 10 pounds and standing no taller than 11 inches at the shoulder. Their coat is long, silky and flowing, and is commonly seen in white with brown or chestnut spotting. The head is characteristically rounded, with large, upright ears.
Temperament

Bred for companionship, the papillion fills this role with gusto, relishing time with his human companion and striving to please his human family. They are friendly, outgoing and not at all timid when socialized properly.

As mentioned, socialization is key with papillons and any small dogs. Firm, consistent handling is a must to prevent aggressive and possessive behavior, obsessive barking and anxiety.

Papillons are high-energy dogs that both love and need outdoor activity. While they can be kept in apartments, they will need plenty of time every day to stretch their legs and enjoy the outdoors.
