Fertilization of Citrus Trees
Citrus trees flourish with a high-nitrogen fertilizer that also has some phosphorus. Fertilizers designed specifically for citrus trees are readily available. Does this Spark an idea?

Fertilizers
-
Fertilizers contain macronutrients essential for healthy plants. Typically, fertilizers contain some combination of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
Macronutrients
-
Nitrogen helps plants grow quickly. Phosphorus is beneficial for healthy roots and helps plants bloom and flower.
-
How Often
-
Citrus fertilizing is customarily done every one to two months during the spring and summer, and two to three months during fall and winter. Establishing a more regular regime will depend on trial and error. Trees that are lush and maturing in a healthy way need to be fertilized less often than unhealthy ones.
Varieties
-
Citrus fertilizers come in two varieties: either sprayed on the leaves, or through the soil. The former is advisable for potted plants, while the latter is best for in-ground citrus trees
Precautions
-
Fertilizing too often can often produce inferior fruit and “burn” the leaves. Fertilize often enough to keep the tree healthy, without damaging it.
