Advair Discus Vs. Inhaler
Advair is a brand name for the prescription combination of the fluticasone and salmeterol drugs. This drug combination can be administered with a diskus inhaler or an HFA inhaler. Advair is used to prevent asthma attacks.

According to drugs.com, doctors may prescribe Advair to prevent worsening of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or to help prevents attacks of asthma.
Diskus

The Advair Diskus uses a special inhaler device with preloaded blister packs of powdered fluticasone and salmeterol. The inhaler device opens a new blister pack and loads it every time that a patient uses it.

HFA Inhaler

The Advair HFA inhaler uses an actuator inhaler device with an aerosol form of salmeterol and fluticasone in a canister. The HFA inhaler must be shaken before use.
Drug Combination

Fluticasone is a steroid that is included in Advair to reduce inflammation. Salmeterol is a bronchodilator drug that relaxes airway muscles to improve a patient’s breathing.
Overdose

Patients may experience seizures, chest pain or irregular heartbeats with an overdose of Advair and an overdose requires immediate medical help. Tremors, vomiting and headaches may also occur with an overdose of this drug.
