Magnolia Tree Water Requirements

Magnolia trees are large evergreen trees that are native to North America. They are found throughout the southern United States and the Pacific Coast. They don't require much water.

Low Water Requirements

The UC Davis website lists magnolias as having low water requirements, which means they only need to be watered two to three times a summer in a hot, dry climate.

Drought Resistance

Magnolias are moderately resistant to drought, according to the University of Florida website. The more drought resistant a tree is, the less watering it needs during times of drought.

Partial Shade

If magnolias are planted in partial shade, they will require less watering in hot conditions than if they have no shade.

Soil Area

If magnolias are planted where they have a lot of soil to allow for a large amount of root expansion, then they will be very drought resistant.

Planting

When magnolias are first planted, they should be watered regularly to help them become established.
