Castor Oil for Stretch Marks
Telltale signs of pregnancy, stretch marks are hard to erase. Castor oil has a long history of use, both as a beneficial treatment to fade existing marks, and as a preventive treatment to keep them at bay.

Properties
-
Castor oil has been used as a topical treatment for maintaining skin health. Containing many fatty acids, it is a potent moisturizer.
Significance
-
Stretch marks may be avoided through intensive moisturization during times of weight fluctuations. Supporting overstretched skin, castor oil may prevent stretch marks by making skin more elastic during these times.
-
How to Use
-
Apply a thick layer of castor oil to affected areas, and cover with plastic wrap. Place a heating device such as a heat pad or a hot water bag on the area, and leave it on for at least 20 minutes. Repeat the treatments several times a week until the marks fade.
Considerations
-
While it may not be possible to completely erase existing stretch marks with castor oil, the inexpensive and all natural treatment should make them less prominent.
Expert Insight
-
Dr Emily Kane, a practicing Naturopath, and former editor of the Journal of Naturopathic Medicine, says that castor oil is a great preventive treatment for stretch marks when applied regularly to the breasts, thighs and belly during pregnancy.
