Mental health issues and symptoms are viewed differently among cultures. Chinese culture has a holistic perspective of looking at mental illness, specifically regarding anxiety.

  1. Imbalance of Energy

    • Disrupting the flow of chi (a vital life energy) and an imbalance of ying and yang are said to cause a disturbance in the body's immune system. This disturbance causes the body to become more susceptible to illness and anxiety.

    • Undergoing situational stress such as the loss of a job, death of a family member or breakup of a relationship contributes to physical and emotional strain or exhaustion. The buildup of stress can cause anxiety.
