Difference Between Liposuction & Lipo Laser
Advances in technology and technique have yielded new methods for removing excess fat and contouring the body. Traditional liposuction and laser-guided liposuction offer different advantages and disadvantages, and the optimal choice depends on your specific situation. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Fat Removal
-
Traditional liposuction is designed to remove larger quantities of fat. Laser-guided liposuction dissolves smaller quantities of fat to smooth out the skin and contour the bodies of healthy individuals with bulges and cellulite that won't respond to diet and exercise.
Technique
-
Traditional liposuction uses direct suction of fat through an invasive tube. In laser-guided lipo, laser thermal energy is used to emulsify and dissolve fat pockets.
-
Invasiveness
-
Laser lipo is significantly less invasive than the traditional procedure, since only tiny channels are inserted into the skin to direct the laser energy; these require no post-operative stitches. There also is far less tissue damage, bruising and swelling after laser lipo.
Cellulite
-
Because traditional liposuction is designed to remove large quantities of fat, there is a chance that the post-operative skin will have more cellulite (skin dimples created by uneven fat pockets beneath the skin's surface). Laser-guided lipo stimulates collagen and elastin production to reduce cellulite and enhance post-operative skin quality.
Recovery
-
Since traditional liposuction is a more invasive and traumatic procedure, recovery time is significantly longer than for laser lipo. Traditional liposuction patients might require an overnight hospital stay and at least a week of bed rest; laser lipo patients require no overnight hospital stay and can return to work in two or three days.
