What Is OSHA 10 Training?
OSHA 10 Training is a training program developed by the OSHA 10 Training Institute to help employers train employees in recognizing, reducing and reporting work hazards. More than 1.3 million people have completed the program, which offers two courses: OSHA 10 Construction and OSHA 10 General Industry.
-
OSHA 10 Construction
-
The construction course is generally taken by construction workers, supervisors, foremen, and others in the construction industry. The course teaches participants the OSHA inspection priorities, to describe the inspection process, and describe the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees under the OSHA Act. In addition, participants also learn the basic requirements for aisle and passageway maintenance, guidelines for identification and protection of floor openings, and the importance of a fire protection program.
OSHA 10 General Industry
-
The general industry class is usually taken by supervisors and employees who are responsible for the health and safety of others. The general industry course covers everything the construction course covers. It also covers additional topics, including the ability to provide fire protection in emergencies from new or old buildings or structures, outline the requirements for safety standards, and establish requirements for equipment.

Testing

The courses are available online through several different agencies, all accredited by the OSHA Training Institute. To pass the course (as of 2009), all participants must receive a score of 70 percent on the final exam, and which may be taken up to three times. Participants also must receive a score of 70 percent on each quiz to move forward in the course.
Time frame
-
Most online programs allow participants six months to complete the course. If the course is not completed within those six months, participants will not receive a certificate of completion.
Certificates of Completion
-
Once the participant has met all the requirements, they must fill out the survey at the end of the course to receive a completion card. After filling out the survey, it will take about four to six weeks for the participant to receive their completion card in the mail.
