Oil Furnace Repair
There are several little things that can go wrong with an oil furnace that you can fix yourself before calling a repairman. Before spending hundreds of dollars, check to see if you can spot and fix the problem. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Thermostat
-
The thermostat has to be set on heat and at a higher temperature than the room. You also need to make sure the fan is on.
Bad Breaker
-
The breaker may be tripped or the fuse may be blown if the fan doesn't come on. This could be from faulty wiring. Once the wires are fixed, reset the breaker.
-
Replacement Parts
-
If the breaker isn't the problem, then one of the furnace parts might need replacement. This could be the thermostat, blower motor or the run capacitor. Check them all to see if this is the case.
Reset
-
Sometimes fixing a furnace is as easy as pushing a reset button. If the blower is working but the burner still isn't, check to see if the reset button is sticking up. If it is, push it down.
Air Filter
-
Clean the air filter. The burner may be working, but the filter is dirty. If the side of the burner feels cool, parts of the burner may need replacement.
