Massage Chairs and Back Pain

Nothing beats a good massage from a trained therapist. However, there are times when visiting a massage therapist is not possible. Fortunately, there are a wide variety of massage chairs for home use to fit just about every need and every budget.

  1. High-end Chairs

    • High-end chairs provide a variety of massage styles that can help to soothe back pain. The chairs are well-built and upholstered in sturdy material. These chairs are designed to be functional for many years and can cost in the thousands of dollars.

    Mid-range Chairs

    • Mid-range chairs might not be upholstered in leather. Many offer heat which can help to relax sore muscles that often accompany back pain. They provide a wide variety of massage options, but they are a more affordable version of the higher-end chairs. There may be a few frills missing, but you can expect a quality massage from a mid-range chair they range in price from $400 to $800.

    Chairs On a Budget

    • Low-priced chairs, ranging in the $150-350 range, often are built with inadequate materials and poorly-designed mechanical parts that tend to offer inadequate massage performance. You may experience increased back pain from the mechanics of a poorly designed chair.

    Massage Cushions

    • Some companies offer slip-on covers you can use on a car seat or a chair. Often these consists of several pods in a padded seat cover, offering heat and vibration. These are great for use in the car, as they can stimulate blood flow to the legs and soothe an aching back, but they are not adequate as a massage option.

    Picking a Chair

    • The most important criteria for any chair is whether you are comfortable. If the chair is comfortable to you, offers the features you want and is a good value for the cost, then by all means purchase the chair. If you are unsure of the quality of the chair, look online for product reviews or ask friends who own massage chairs. Finally, you can check with your chiropractor or massage therapist to see if they have any recommendations.
