The George Foreman Grill is made from two ridged, nonstick grill plates that are held together by hinges. The meat is placed on the bottom-slanted grill plate, and the top grill plate is lowered onto it, pressing down the meat and cooking it by contact with the heated plates.

As the meat is pressed between the grill plates, the fat drains down the slanted plate and is collected in a removable tray. The fat can be discarded to reduce fat and calories in the meat.
