What Can You Cook in a Toaster Oven?

Toaster ovens are versatile kitchen appliances. If you're trying to cut down on your utility bills, using a toaster oven in place of a regular oven can help. If you plan to do a lot of cooking with your toaster oven, you may wish to purchase a larger model. Infrared, convection and even rotisserie models are also available. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Breakfast

    • Set the oven's dial to "toast" to cook bagels, toast, frozen waffles and pancakes for breakfast. You can also bake muffins; pour the batter into muffin cups and place them on the toaster tray.

    Lunch

    • For lunch, try baking a hot sandwich. Assemble your favorite bread, dressing, meat and cheese. Arrange the sandwich so that it is "open-faced" -- do not place the top slice of bread on until the whole sandwich is done cooking. Place the cheese on top of the other ingredients to melt it better.

    Dinner

    • Make a calzone in your toaster oven for dinner. Roll out pizza dough, spread marinara, cheese, and other desired pizza ingredients on half of the dough. Fold the other half over the rest and seal the edges. Bake at 450 degrees for about 20 minutes.

    Sides

    • Try roasting a healthy side of vegetables with your toaster oven. Slice carrots julienne style and spread them in the toaster tray. Drizzle with olive oil and minced garlic and bake at 450 degrees until they brown.

    Dessert

    • Make s'mores for a quick yet decadent dessert. Place a graham cracker on the toaster tray and top it with a piece of chocolate and a marshmallow. Add another graham cracker to the top and heat at 350 degrees until the marshmallow starts to melt.
