Rhizoids & Leaky Gut Syndrome

Rhizoids & Leaky Gut Syndrome thumbnail
The human digestive tract harbors good yeasts, but some yeasts can grow aggressively under certain conditions.

Rhizoids are roots that grow out of the fungal type of Candida, a type of yeast, inside the human digestive system. These root systems cause leaky gut syndrome, or LGS, according to Positive Health.

  1. Function

    • According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, rhizoids appear when normal Candida grows out of control, allowing these roots to break through the digestive system's walls.

    Effects

    • When the intestinal wall is broken through, partially digested secretions enter the bloodstream, creating food allergies as the body's natural defenses attack the foreign bodies in the blood, according to Positive Health.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Anti-fungal treatments may help stem the overgrowth of fungus, but lifestyle and diet changes may be necessary to prevent future outbreaks. Some practitioners recommend a low-sugar diet.

    Scientific Studies

    • Some mainstream doctors dispute the existence of leaky gut syndrome. The condition has not yet been extensively studied in a scientifically rigorous way.

    Warning

    • LGS is a complicated disease, so before beginning any home regimen, consult a doctor about the condition to find the best mode of treatment.
