Is B Cell Lymphoma Curable?

B cell lymphoma is a form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma that attacks B lymphocytes, or B cells, in the lymph system. Several types of B cells are used to create antibodies that the body uses to fight bacteria and viruses.

Diffuse Large B Cell

Diffuse large B cells with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma often respond well to chemotherapy treatment and about half of patients with this type of B cell lymphoma are cured by this treatment, according to the American Cancer Society.

Follicular Lymphoma

Follicular lymphoma is hard to cure but tends to grow slowly. Patients without symptoms may not be treated unless this form of B cell lymphoma changes to a diffuse B cell lymphoma.

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and Small Lymphocytic Leukemia

Forms of B cell lymphoma called chronic lymphocytic leukemia and small lymphocytic leukemia are usually not curable but these forms of the disease tend to be slow growing.

Mucosa Associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma

Mucosa associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma, or MALT lymphoma, can often be cured in its early stages with antibiotic treatment.

Burkitt Lymphoma

Burkitt lymphoma is a fast growing form of B cell lymphoma and about half of patients can be cured with intensive chemotherapy treatment.
