El Toro Mountain Facts
El Toro Mountain is located in Southern California, just over a mile from the town of Morgan Hill in Santa Clara County. Unfortunately, El Toro Mountain is located on private property, and is only open to the public for hiking one day a year.

Many types of flowers can be seen on El Toro Mountain in spring and summer. The peak of El Toro Mountain is 1,257 feet (383.13 m) above sea level.
Location

On a clear day, you can see the Pacific Ocean from the El Toro summit. El Toro Mountain is private property, and is located just over one mile from Morgan Hill.

El Toro Hike

The El Toro Hike is an annual event held each March. Every spring, the Morgan Hill Historical Society plans a community hike up El Toro Mountain. Visitors are welcome. The 2010 hike is scheduled for March 20.

Morgan Hill is the town in El Toro's shadow. According to legend, author Bret Harte gave El Toro Mountain its name when he climbed it and found two bulls fighting near the summit. This tale has not been proved.
Misconceptions

People commonly mistake Morgan Hill as another name for El Toro Mountain, whereas Morgan Hill is actually the town in El Toro's shadow named for the San Franciscan that founded the city.
