Dwarf Weeping Flowering Tree

Dwarf weeping flowering trees are smaller than normal trees with an average height from 5 to 15 feet. They also have a pleasing ornamental "umbrella" shape with branches hanging down toward the ground instead of spreading out like other trees.

Tree Care

Dwarf weeping flowering trees are very easy to maintain. Their small size results in less water, mulch and space needed for growth.

Value in Landscape

Due to their columnar shape, limited height and small root systems, dwarf weeping flowering trees can be placed in small flowerbeds or close to a house. They also do not create a lot of shade, allowing plants to grow underneath them.

Fertilization

Dwarf weeping flowering trees may be fertilized at any time. The timing, however, is most important in early spring prior to blossoming.

Sunlight Requirements

The beautiful flowers of a dwarf weeping tree are its best feature. For maximum flowering, these trees should be planted in an area that receives at least eight hours of sun per day.

Shape and Trimming

Because these trees are dwarf and weeping, pruning branches to the desired length usually does not require a ladder. Branches can be pruned to the same length all the way around or be allowed to hang down to the ground.

Varieties

Choices include Snow Fountain weeping cherries, with white flowers and no fruit; Red Jade weeping crabapples, with white flowers and red fruit; and Siberian weeping peashrubs, with yellow flowers.
