Oregon Paramedic Training

Paramedics respond to an emergency and provide medical care en route to a hospital or while waiting for medical professionals to arrive. Oregon offers many training programs for paramedics. After training, paramedics may work in a hospital, fire department or for a private ambulance service.

Skills

Paramedics must know basic first aid and CPR, but their role as caregiver goes far beyond basic needs. Paramedics may deliver medicine, treat burns or injuries and interpret electrocardiograms.

Training

The state of Oregon required paramedics to obtain an associate's degree in emergency medical services, otherwise known as paramedic training courses. Emergency professionals moving to Oregon from other states may check with the Oregon Department of Health regarding obtaining an Oregon license.

Recertification

Oregon requires paramedics to keep current CPR certification and to attend paramedic refresher classes every two years.

Exam

Upon completion of a paramedic training program, candidates must pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic exam. Candidates who pass the exam will receive certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and from the state of Oregon.

Tip

Oregon.gov provides a list of schools throughout Oregon that offer paramedic training. Before becoming a paramedic, you must have basic EMS training.
