Lysol Safety

Safety guidelines should be followed when using cleaning products, such as Lysol.

Lysol is a common household disinfectant cleaner. Like many household cleaners, Lysol can be a hazard to humans and animals if used inappropriately. Following a few safety guidelines for using and storing Lysol can help you prevent a hazard in your home.

  1. Eye Irritation

    • If Lysol comes in contact with your eyes, it may cause irritation. If this occurs, flush your eyes with water. Remove contact lenses and clean them.

    Skin Irritation

    • Some people experience skin irritation when exposed to Lysol. If your skin becomes irritated, wash the area thoroughly. If a problem persists, consult a physician.

    Flammable

    • Keep Lysol away from temperatures above 130 degrees F, flames and sparks. Exposure to such conditions will cause a fire. Lysol in an aerosol can may burst when exposed to heat or flame.

    Ingestion

    • Lysol contains denatured ethanol, which can result in ethanol poisoning if consumed. If Lysol is ingested, rinse your mouth, drink a glass of water and contact a physician.

    Storage

    • Store your Lysol products in their original container in a cool place away from children.

    Disposal

    • Containers can be thrown away in the trash. Leave the cap on the bottles and do not puncture or incinerate the container.
