Causes

Bacteria thrive in the moist, dark environment of skin folds and urine and vaginal secretions can accumulate in that region.

The dog's vulva may be red, itchy, crusty, have yellow pustules or experience hair loss. The area may have a foul smell and the dog may lick at the region or have recurring urinary tract infections.

Vulvar fold pyoderma is more common in obese dogs or those who were spayed at a very early age.
