According to SimplyHired.com, the average salary for an ice cream truck driver job is $25,000. MSBC reports that some drivers take home 35 percent of their daily sales but spend about $12 on daily truck rental fees. There are also gas costs.

However, a driver with an unpleasant demeanor can scare children away, and that can affect revenue.

According to MSNBC, a taco-shaped chocolate ice cream cone that can't be found in regular stores is a strong seller. Obscure flavors such as chili-powder-flavored ice cream are not long lasting because they do not apeal to children.

blah, just like any other sole propriety business the money you make depends on how hard and long you're going to work at it. I started my own ice cream truck company in the 90's and it was rough. Music box $500.00 without install. Insurance :$3000 (mind you this is 1993 dollars) per truck for 6 months (at the time only 3 insurance companies would even think of insuring an ice cream truck). Of course a lot of people go without this insurance plan, but they don't realize till it's too late that they can be sued by people if a kid is hit by another car if they are trying to stop you. Even if you do everything right. Of course you need a rig. retractable stop signs. freezers or walk in freezers both at home/office and for the truck. Most cities also limit the number of ice cream vendors in their towns too, so you'll most likely need a permit which will also cost money. If you can even get one. That applies as much to city's like Detroit Michigan (not year round) as they do to Phoenix Arizona(year round). Then their is the apartment buildings where the manager will either kick you out, or want a cut. I worked 14+ hours a day when I started. Dry ice pick up, every couple days a trip to the distributors (the best sellers you can't get in the stores and the ones that you can cost too much even at Costco to make a good profit on) then stock the truck, gas up, then at least 10 hours of idling down the street listening to "The Entertainer" all while resisting pleas of free ones, the occasional thrown rock or bottle rocket, requests for Van Hallens "Ice Cream Man", noise complaints, people playing chicken with you on the road, etc.... Then put the stock away, cash out- bank deposit (the tellers hate you by the way since you're coming in every couple days with 20lbs of pennies and nickles). All that as long your rig doesn't break down. Did I make money on it, sure. But I wasn't getting rich and it was a lot of hard work, a lot harder than you'd think. And I think I lived on Chocolate Eclairs that first summer.

in the north east they make more than that for 41/2 months of work. then they drive oil trucks all winter for good money. they make more with a high school diploma or with out one than most college grads in middle management positions. and they have more job security.
