Why or How Is Organic Turmeric Better?

Turmeric is a popular spice used primarily in curries. Turmeric also contains antibacterial and other medicinal properties. Organic turmeric is free from pesticides and genetic modification.

  1. What is Organic?

    • Foods, including spices, that are listed as organic and certified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), are free from conventional pesticides, ionizing radiation, and fertilizers made from synthetic materials or sewage. 100% organic foods do not include the use of preservatives.

    Preservatives Pro

    • Non-organic foods tend to have a longer shelf life, due to the use of preservatives, and therefore are considered more stable and safe.

    Preservatives Con

    • Scientists are studying the impact of ingesting preservatives. For example, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, recent British research shows a possible correlation between certain food additives, such as colorings and preservatives, and an increase in activity. Research continues on other possible effects of preservatives in food.

    Additive Free

    • Organic turmeric is also free from fillers and additives, so the only ingredient in the container is 100 percent turmeric.

    Conservation & Preservation

    • Companies that wish to be considered organic by the USDA and other world organizations must use practices to best conserve and preserve soil and water quality. The organic label encompasses more than simply the end result; it also ensures conservation practices as well.

    Antibacterial & Medicinal Aid

    • If the consumer chooses to ingest turmeric for its antibacterial and medicinal properties, then the purest, most natural product available is organic turmeric. Proponents of organic foods believe that the chemicals added in the growing and production of the spice can negate or even worsen the ailments that turmeric is attempting to treat.
