Comparison of CRT & LCD Monitors
CRT and LCD monitors are the two most-popular types of computer monitors. Each type of monitor has its distinct advantages and disadvantages, making CRTs and LCDs best for different situations.
-
Display Size
-
CRT monitors range in sizes of between 15 and 21 inches, while LCD monitors can typically be found in sizes between 15 and 30 inches.
Overall Size
-
CRT monitors are thicker than LCDs. As a result, a CRT monitor will always be much larger than an LCD monitor with the same display size.
-
Weight
-
LCD monitors are much lighter than CRT monitors. While a 20-inch LCD will weigh around 15 pounds, a similarly-sized CRT could weigh 40 pounds or more.
Viewing Angles
-
The viewing angles of LCD monitors tend to be limited, causing colors to appear washed-out when the monitor is viewed from an angle. CRT monitors never have this problem.
Color Accuracy
-
While LCD monitors have very accurate colors, they have a more difficult time displaying deep blacks than CRT monitors.
Price
-
LCD monitors tend to be cheaper than CRT monitors of the same size. Also, the substantial weight of a CRT monitor can result in more-costly shipping and handling charge if the monitor is purchased online.
