Signs of Sinus Infection

The most common symptoms of sinus infection are a runny nose, congestion, and headache. You may also have a fever and feel weak. Your eyes may be very sensitive to light or have trouble focusing. Severe cases of sinus infection may result in double vision.
Double Vision (Diplopia)

Double vision with a sinus infection may be the result of significant swelling in the sinus cavity. You may notice what you know to be a single object, appear as two images stacked on top of one another, or you may see side-by-side images. This is double vision, and you should contact your doctor.

If double vision is present with a sinus infection, you may have a sphenoid sinus infection which is an infection of the sinuses located deep behind your eyes. These infections are often difficult to treat, and doctors often prescribe antibiotics to be used over a lengthy period of time.

Double vision related to sinus infections should improve as the infection improves. If vision does not return, your eye care specialist may evaluate your eyes to determine if you require special prisms put into the lens of your glasses that will help the double vision. Your eye doctor may also recommend eye exercises.
