Can You Label Placemarks in Google Maps?
Google Maps allows you to save custom maps, with each saved location marked by a "placemark." You can customize the label (title), associated text, and even the placemark image itself.
-
Identification
-
Labels are known as Titles in Google Maps.
Editing a Placemark
-
Login to Google Maps and click "My Maps" to access your personal maps. Click on the location's title on the left-hand side to access the placemark editing options. Change the title by replacing the text in the "Title" box.
-
Default Title
-
The default title for a placemark is the street address.
Default Title Display
-
Google Maps will only display a placemark's title in the list of locations on the left, or if an end user clicks on the placemark image.
Title Display Workaround
-
If you want your placemark title to appear on the map by default, you have to create a GroundOverlay using the Google Maps API. See Resources for step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish this.
