The Disadvantages of Fabric Vertical Blinds & Vinyl

Despite myriad options, vertical blinds do have some disadvantages.

Opting to cover the windows in your home with vertical blinds provides you with a multitude of styles, colors, sizes and materials from which to choose. But this decision can unfortunately come with disadvantages as well.

Cords

Dangling cording on vertical blinds can pose a strangulation risk to children who may see them as toys and place them in their mouths. Although blinds today have built-in safety features, select blinds without cords to avoid this situation entirely.

Cost

The price points of vertical blinds vary according to brand, style and material, so do plenty of research to make sure you are getting the best buy.

Light

Certain styles of blinds are less likely to keep out all light. Choose heavier-weight vertical blinds, or confirm the route holes are threaded from the back to fully block the light that streams through your windows.

Cleaning

It can be time-consuming and expensive to clean vertical blinds, especially if they're made of fabric.

Installation

Hanging vertical blinds can be tricky. Enlist a friend who can help you measure, hang and level them properly.
