Chronic Arm Pain
Chronic arm pain has several causes and should be evaluated by a doctor. Pain may develop in the muscles, ligaments or tendons as well as the bones and nerves of the arm.

Causes

According to the Mayo Clinic, arm pain may result from bursitis, tendonitis or carpal tunnel syndrome. Injuries to the arm can also result in chronic pain.
Emergency Treatment

Severe arm pain or arm pain that is accompanied by squeezing or pressure in the chest may be caused by a heart attack. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek immediate emergency medical help.

Arm pain that develops with exertion and is relieved by rest may be a sign of heart disease and should be evaluated by a doctor as soon as possible. People who cannot move an arm in a normal fashion should also see a doctor right away.

Individuals with arm pain that does not improve after a week of rest should schedule a an appointment with their doctor.
Self Care

Arm pain sufferers may get some relief from their pain if they protect and rest the arm, apply ice to it and elevate it. A compression bandage may help reduce swelling.
