Side Effects of Thermal Ablation

Thermal ablation, or laser therapy, is a surgical procedure that is used to treat varicose veins of the leg. This procedure is usually safe but some patients may experience side effects after the surgery.

Tiredness

According to the Cleveland Clinic, a patient may be more tired than usual for a few weeks following an endovenous thermal ablation procedure.

Pain

Patients may notice pain at the ablation site for a couple of weeks after a thermal ablation surgery.

Bruising

Abnormal bruising may occur at the site of a thermal ablation. The bruising normally clears up within two weeks of the procedure.

Numbness

In rare cases a thermal ablation patient may notice numbness or tingling along the shin for several days after the laser procedure.

Blood Clot

Thermal ablation patients run some risk of developing a blood clot in the veins near the treatment area.
