Types

Ivermectin is in a class of drugs called anthelmintics. It treats conditions that cause lesions by killing the parasite that causes them. Ivermectin may be prescribed for treatment of round worms, creeping eruption, and strongyloidiasis (threadworm).

Some of the side effects that may be associated with the use of Ivermectin are dizziness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, weakness, sleepiness, shaking and chest discomfort.

Considerations

Ivermectin may cause serious side effects and should only be used under a doctor's care. If you experience hives, itching, wheezing or difficulty breathing, it may be a sign of a life-threatening allergic reaction. If you have had meningitis, African sleeping sickness, HIV or any other condition that affects your immune system, consult your doctor before taking this medication. The safety of Ivermectin has not yet been determined in young children and pregnant women.
