Ivermectin for Lesions

Ivermectin is a medication that is used to treat lesions from parasite infections and scabies. Ivermectin is an oral medicine and is often used as an alternative to topical medications.

  1. Identification

    • Ivermectin is a popular medication that is prescribed in the treatment of lesions resulting from different conditions. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), an estimated 6 million people all over the world have taken Ivermectin.

    Types

    • Ivermectin is in a class of drugs called anthelmintics. It treats conditions that cause lesions by killing the parasite that causes them. Ivermectin may be prescribed for treatment of round worms, creeping eruption, and strongyloidiasis (threadworm).

    Effects

    • Some of the side effects that may be associated with the use of Ivermectin are dizziness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, weakness, sleepiness, shaking and chest discomfort.

    Other Uses

    • Ivermectin may also be prescribed in the treatment of head lice, roundworm infections, pubic lice, and scabies.

    Considerations

    • Ivermectin may cause serious side effects and should only be used under a doctor's care. If you experience hives, itching, wheezing or difficulty breathing, it may be a sign of a life-threatening allergic reaction. If you have had meningitis, African sleeping sickness, HIV or any other condition that affects your immune system, consult your doctor before taking this medication. The safety of Ivermectin has not yet been determined in young children and pregnant women.
