Description of a Resistol Hat
Resistol has been producing high-quality Western and dress hats since 1927, using distinctive production techniques and fine materials. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Background
-
Resistol makes both felt and straw bodies. Resistol manufactures both felt and straw hats, which are the most commonly-used materials in Western hat bodies. Felt hats are made to order based on the measurements of the customer's head, which always guarantees an accurate fit.
Materials
-
The hats contain various furs. Resistol uses beaver, mink, and chinchilla fur to make the bodies of its fur hats. The number of X's placed on the hats indicates which combination of fur was used. The higher the X number, the greater percentage of beaver fur. The X's are also used in the construction of straw hats. Here, the X's indicate the tightness of the weave and the width of the straw reed.

Manufacturing Techniques
-
Resistol hat bodies are steamed to the desired size and then shellacked and ironed, in order to smooth out the material and protect the felt on the brim. These steps ensure a long-lasting, rugged hat.
Finish
-
The hat is sanded to smoothness. Another distinctive characteristic of Resistol hats is that they are sanded on the crown and the brim, to provide a quality finish that is both smooth and fine.
Quality
-
A Resistol hat is long-lasting. The crown of the hat is machine-pressed and steamed. Resistol hats also make use of colored powder rubbed into the hats, whether black, white, tan, or chestnut. You can expose the hat to the elements, and it will still retain its shape and color. Vintage Resistol hats are common due to the stamina of the materials.
