Medical physicists with the most experience generally have higher salaries than those with less. Individuals working in medical physics may acquire additional certification in the field and/or further specialize in an area such as radiation therapy or quality assurance.

    • As of 2010, those with less than one year of experience have salaries that fall between $72,400 and $90,000, while those with more than 20 years of experience have salaries from $97,500 to $190,500 according to the PayScale website.

    Education

    • Medical physicists with the highest level of education generally have the higher salaries. According to PayScale, those with a Doctorate in Physics have a salary range of $95,000 to $178,500.

    Certification

    • Medical physicists certified with the Medical Physicist American Board of Radiology (ABR) have a salary range of $108,400 to $172,600 as of 2010, according to PayScale.

    Radiation Therapy

    • The salary range for medical physicists who specialize in radiation therapy is $91,300 to $149,200 according to PayScale.

    Quality Assurance

    • PayScale reports that medical physicists specializing in quality assurance have a salary range of $74,000 to $180,000.
