Costa Rica Travel Restrictions

Those traveling from the United States to Costa Rica will enter through San Jose. Upon arrival there are a number of requirements that must be met in order to enter the country.

Yellow Fever

Those traveling from parts of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and sub-Sahara Africa must have proof of a yellow fever vaccination.

Passport

Those entering Costa Rica from America must have a valid passport that does not expire for three months upon arrival.

Documents

Travelers must always have a copy of their passport on their body. Since crime rates are high in Costa Rica it is encourage that visitors carry photocopies of their passport and stamp.

Children

Children entering Costa Rica with only one parent or no parents must have a note from both guardians allowing them to enter the country.

Visa

Any visitors staying in Costa Rica over 90 days must apply for a visa through the embassy. This may be done before traveling or upon arrival within the 90 days.
