Treatment

A doctor may perform a thoracentesis procedure to remove fluid from a patient’s lungs and look for signs of an infection. Bacterial infections may be treated with antibiotics.

Complications

Patients with pleurisy may develop a collapsed lung or increased breathing difficulties.
