Gift Registry Card Etiquette
Gift-giving is a personal and cultural practice. Many stores offer gift registries where couples getting married or expecting a baby can register for specific items they want. This gives guests a guide on what to buy the couple. Many stores provide the couple with gift registry cards to help spread the word about the registry.
-
Purpose
-
Stores give gift registrants small cards with information about how to access a couple's gift registry for wedding or baby gifts. These cards are meant for use in baby and wedding shower invitations.
Wedding Invitations
-
Gift registry cards should not be included in wedding invitations. This would look as if a gift is expected. Guests are not required to give wedding gifts.
-
Wedding Shower Invitations
-
The wedding shower host can include the registry cards in wedding shower invitations. A shower is generally for "showering" the bride-to-be with gifts and most guests will appreciate knowing where the couple is registered.
Baby Shower Invitations
-
The baby shower host can put the registry cards in baby shower invitations. As with wedding showers, baby shower guests will want to know the registry information.
Other Considerations
-
It's not considered appropriate for the wedding couple or expectant parents to hand out registry cards personally or give registry cards to anyone, unless a guest specifically asks for the registry information.
