The Dead Sea is the saltiest body of water on our planet and is also the lowest location. Diving in the Dead Sea is a truly distinctive and unusual experience.

  1. History

    • The Dead Sea has history dating back to Biblical times and once was home to the ancient cities of Sodom, Gomorrah, Adman, Zebouin and Zoar. The Dead Sea is full of minerals and many people visit it for its healing properties.

    Features

    • Divers in the Dead Sea experience an unusual sensation of floating like nothing they have ever experienced anywhere else because the Dead Sea is eight times more salty then the oceans. Divers can float without even trying.

    Considerations

    • Nothing can live in the Dead Sea except for micro-bacteria. Divers enjoy seeing salt crystals that shine like diamonds in unrippling water.

    Time Frame

    • Diving season is year-round and water temperatures range from 64 degrees in January and from 82 to 95 degrees in August.

    Tours

    • Because this is an unusual and possibly difficult diving experience, most diving companies expect a diver to be very experienced before a dive in the Dead Sea. Tours are available with guides from Israel, Jordan and Egypt.
