Lower Back Injuries From Lifting Weights
Weightlifting can leave the lower back vulnerable to injury if precautions are not taken. The lower back is susceptible to injury because the body and external weights need to be supported in the lumbar spine. Athletes in a weight lifting program should take steps to strengthen the abdominal muscles through exercise. Also, stretching exercises help lower back circulation and flexibility.

Muscle strains
-
Lower back injury from lifting weights may occur from trying to lift weights that are too heavy. Muscle becomes strained, and a tear may result causing pain. Always use a spotter when lifting weights and seek advice from a professional trainer on weight lifting routines.
Lumbar Strain
-
Lumbar strain can be caused by pushing or pulling in lifting weights. It results in damaged tendons and muscle spasms. Sit-ups and crunches are excellent exercises to strengthen abdominal muscles.

Disc Injuries
-
Disc injuries occur after improper heavy lifting, or with a sudden twisting motion.
Neural Arch Fractures
-
Neural Arch Fractures is also known as "hangman's fracture." The injury is caused by hyperextension of the spine with vertical compression, and is rare in lifting weights.
Ligament Sprains
-
Ligament sprains are caused from overextending or tearing a ligament, and stressing a joint at the same time.
