    • The BLS also reveals that while no formal education is actually required to become a dental technician, employers generally prefer to hire high school graduates with formal training. An education in dental laboratory technology is offered at many colleges in the form a two-year dental technology program, leading lead to an associate degree or certificate. There are also four-year bachelor degree programs in dental technology.

    Tasks

    • During training, dental technicians may begin as helpers and learn new skills gradually, according to the BLS. Dental lab technicians may begin with simple procedures, such as pouring plaster into an impression. Complex procedures include porcelain crowns and bridges.

    Other Qualifications

    • To further employment opportunities, consider becoming certified. The National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology administers certification, according to the BLS.
