Speeding Ticket Forgiveness Law in Rhode Island
The speeding ticket forgiveness law in Rhode Island can be used in most cases if a driver has a good driving record.
-
Good Driving Record
-
If you have had a motor vehicle operation license for at least three years and have not received any traffic violations in the three years preceding the speeding ticket, you can ask to have the ticket excused, according to Rhode Island statutes. A parking ticket is not considered a prior violation.
Process of Forgiveness
-
Rhode Island statutes indicate that once the proper paper work has been submitted showing no traffic violations in the previous three years, the charge will dismissed unless there is good cause provided or proven by law that the ticket should stand. Application must be made within six months of the violation.
-
Unforgivable Tickets
-
Speeding tickets for driving 14 miles or more over the posted speed limit, violations that involve a school bus, lack of child restraints, property damage, personal injury or refusal to submit to a chemical test cannot be dismissed.
Out-of-State Motorist
-
The Rhode Island Tribunal states that an out-of-state motorist must bring a certified copy of his driving record as proof of a good record.
Fees
-
A $35 fine must be paid for administrative costs, according to Rhode Island statutes, even when a ticket is forgiven.
