The European Copper Beech Tree is a large tree that is extremely ornamental and features beautiful leaves, simple spring blooms, and winter flowers. Because of this tree's size, it is not intended for residential landscapes, but rather, much larger areas. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Growth

    • The European Copper Beech Tree is known to grow 70 to 80 feet tall and 50 to 70 feet wide.

    Soil

    • This tree prefers being planted in locations which receive plenty of sun and in a moist, light soil. Both acidic and slightly alkaline soils work well for this plant, as long as they are well drained.

    Foliage

    • This tree yields elliptical purple or red leaves in the spring. These leaves turn a beautiful copper color in the fall, giving the European Copper Beech Tree its name. These deciduous leaves are in a simple alternate arrangement.

    Roots

    • The European Copper Beech Tree should not be used for residential landscapes or near sidewalks and driveways, as the root system is capable of lifting sidewalks and interfering with mowing.

    Hardiness Zones

    • With a USDA Hardiness Zone of 4 to 7, the European Copper Beech Tree, although not native to the United States, grows well in most areas. This tree does require plenty of water and does not thrive in particularly dry or hot areas.
