Oklahoma Labor Law

Oklahoma labor laws are regulated by the Oklahoma Department of Labor. These labor laws are maintained and enforced for the protection of both the employee and employer and cover everything from overtime to child labor laws.

Minimum Wage

In accordance with federal regulations, as of July 2009, the minimum wage in Oklahoma is $7.25 per hour. Employers must pay minimum wage to all employees if the company employs at least 10 full-time workers.

Overtime

Employees who work over 40 hours in a seven-day workweek must be paid overtime. This pay shall consitute time and a half. Employers may require employees to work overtime.

Discrimination

Employees being discriminated or harassed based on religion and race may file a claim against an employer with the Oklahoma Human Rights Commission.

Breaks

Employers are only required to give mandatory break periods to employees under the age of 16. Lunch and break periods are determined by the employer and are considered a benefit.

Child Labor Laws

Employees under the age of 16 are limited in the work duties they may perform. Employers are also restricted as to the amount of hours a minor may work.
