    • It is the responsibility of these individuals to both establish and monitor the control and implementation of accounting-control procedures. An accountant also strives to eliminate any accounting discrepancies.

    Taxation Issues

    • A public accountant is responsible for the monitoring and support of taxation issues. The accountant must be prepared to deal with audits and generally coordinates the audit process.

    Databases

    • An accountant is often responsible for developing and maintaining a company's databases, manual filing systems and computer-software systems. The accountant also supervises the handling of financial data.

    Budget

    • Public accountants are often called upon to develop annual operating budgets. This individual often advises departmental managers on program planning and salary recommendations.
