What Is an Ad Agency Sales Rep?

Advertising agency sales representatives are part of advertising, marketing and sales teams. Agency sales positions are found in local and national advertising companies, radio, consumer magazines and television stations.

    • Advertising sales representatives work with advertising sales managers and directors to maximize advertising space. Some sales representatives contact customers by telephone, while others contact by electronic mail and in-person visits.

    Duties

    • One duty of advertising agency sales representatives is selling advertising to customers. Other duties include managing sales reports, meeting monthly sales quotas and providing progress reports to management.

    Qualifications

    • Entry-level positions allow a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma and on-the-job training. Advanced positions require a bachelor's degree in management, marketing or communications and prior sales experience.

    Work Environment

    • Sales representatives use electronic tools, which allow working at home or during road trips. Some tools include a telephone and computer. Some representative work irregular work hours such as nights or weekends.

    Salary

    • According the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), a May 2008 report shows the average annual wages for an advertising sales representative is $48,550. Employers can pay a combination of bonuses, salaries and commissions.
