What Is the Job of the Maid of Honor? thumbnail
The maid of honor is the bride's "right-hand woman."

You have been chosen by your best friend to be her maid of honor. After accepting this privilege, it is your mission to assist the bride and groom in creating an organized, successful wedding.

  1. The Beginning

    • Help the bride with details such as scouting locations for the wedding and reception, choosing and ordering invitations, and selecting decorations and favors for the bridal shower, bachelorette party, wedding and reception.

    The Dress

    • Go shopping with the bride to support her in choosing her wedding gown, as well as the bridesmaid and maid of honor dresses. Keep on top of the dress order timetable and alteration schedules by coordinating with the bride and bridesmaids.

    The Bridal Parties

    • Plan and host the bridal shower and bachelorette parties, with the assistance of the bridesmaids who should help you with the party expenses.

    The Wedding

    • Ensure the bride arrives on time and assist her in getting ready. Run interference and/or facilitate communication as needed. Arrange the bride's train appropriately. Hold her bouquet during the vows. Keep the groom's ring until it is required. Sign the marriage license if you are asked.

    The Reception

    • Arrange the receiving line if the bride requests it. Resolve any reception issues that come up. Make a toast and speech to honor the newly married couple.
