Plasma TV Vs. HD TV

Plasma TV Vs. HD TV thumbnail
Both Plasma and LCD TVs have their advantages.

The spectrum of televisions available on the market today gives consumers an excellent selection, but choosing the right TV for your needs may be a bit overwhelming. There are advantages to owning either a plasma or LCD TV.

  1. High Definition Capacity

    • Both plasma and LCD TVs have the capacity to produce picures in HD. Both types of TVs are available in 1080p and 720p, which refers to the quality of the picture. The higher the number, the better the picture resolution.

    Price

    • If you're looking for a TV on a budget, an LCD TV may be a better option. Most manufacturers have 42-inch models as their smallest plasma option, which results in a little higher price. The cheapest 42-inch plasma TV runs about $549.99, while the same size LCD TV is about $20 cheaper.

    Energy Efficiency

    • LCD TVs are more energy efficient than plasma TVs. According to CNET, plasmas average roughly two to three times more electricity consumption to produce an image of the same brightness as an LCD.

    Picture Quality

    • Plasma TVs produce deeper blacks and brighter colors than LCD TVs, making plasma TVs an ideal choice for movie or sports fans.

    Room Lighting

    • Plasma TVs work best in dark or dimly lit rooms, and an LCD TV picture will look great in a well-lighted room.
