Dish Vs. Cable TV

Both dish satellite and cable television can bring new types of programming to your television. Both have advantages and disadvantages in price, quality of service, and other services they can offer.

  1. Signal Interruption

    • Because its information is broadcast through a cable, cable TV is relatively free of the interruptions that can plague satellite networks. Satellite signals, by contrast, can be broken up by the weather and tree limbs.

    Hardware

    • Cable TV does not require all the dishes and antennas of satellite television. The exterior satellite dish is more subject to tampering and damage.

    Broader Selection

    • Satellite programming usually offers more channels and movies on demand.

    Digital Signal

    • Satellite TV is a pure digital signal, meaning it has a much clearer picture. Its sound is usually broadcast in a crisp Dolby surround sound, which is better than cable.

    Rates

    • Satellite is usually cheaper than cable. However, cable often is available bundled with phone and Internet services at a reduced rate.
