Cool Laser Vs. Fraxel Lasers

Some of the newest lasers to join the smooth skin arsenal, Fraxel and CoolTouch lasers treat wrinkles, acne scars and photoaging. Some CoolTouch lasers are also used for varicose veins, cellulite and hair removal. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Cooltouch Laser

    • CoolTouch lasers are non-ablative lasers, which work to stimulate collagen without damaging the epidermis. A freezing jet of water is sprayed onto the skin before each laser pulse, allowing the laser light to penetrate with minimal discomfort.

    Fraxel Laser

    • Fraxel lasers are ablative CO2 lasers that are selectively applied to the skin, creating a grid of microscopic wounds. According to the Colorado Center for Photomedicine, CO2 lasers deliver significant heat to skin tissue, making Fraxel a better choice for patients seeking a more dramatic improvement.

    Uses

    • Both the Fraxel and CoolTouch lasers are used to treat aged skin and acne scarring. CoolTouch is also used to reduce acne. Special CoolTouch lasers are also used to treat veins and cellulite.

    Fraxel Results

    • Results vary depending on the intensity of treatment and the type of laser used. A single Fraxel repair treatment will deliver dramatic results. However, the gentler Fraxel refine laser is more suitable for minor skin damage.

    CoolTouch Results

    • Like gentler Fraxel lasers, CoolTouch therapy requires multiple treatments for optimal results. Results are gradual over a period of several months.

    Recovery Time

    • Depending on the intensity of treatment, recovery time can take anywhere from a single day to up to 10 days after a Fraxel laser treatment. CoolTouch requires little to no downtime.
